Presentation of the XISTO e-Bike
On 1 March, at 12.30 p.m., at the Turismo Centro de Portugal stand in Pavilion 1, the “Xisto” electric bicycle, exclusively designed for the Aldeias do Xisto brand, will be presented. It was designed by design students from the University of Aveiro and produced by Mind Over Body. The “Xisto” will soon be available for visitors to enjoy in the many bike and trail programmes available at the Aldeias do Xisto (see myxistotrails.pt | bookinxisto.com). Its fundamental message is the gentle way of using and enjoying the land and landscape. Besides its design, this e-bike also stands out for its rear panniers and central box, which can be adapted to the users’ various interests, whether leisure, nature observation, or discovering the dark sky, allowing the transport of appropriate stargazing equipment.
It is another step in the Cyclin' Portugal Aldeias do Xisto strategy, which affirms this territory as a true bike-friendly destination, with excellent conditions for competition and leisure cycling: a landscape with ideal characteristics, quality infrastructures, a diversified calendar of events, programmes and tourist services specially directed at all practitioners.
The idea of creating a bicycle exclusive to the Aldeias do Xisto emerges from an experimental attitude that cuts across the work of ADXTUR, which affirms the territory as a living laboratory open to experimentation, calling for thought and action at a technical, scientific and artistic level. The link between territory, academia and industry is a virtuous triangle that ADXTUR has pursued and sought to stimulate over the years in various X-Lab projects.
XJazz Ensemble – A SCHIST STORY
To mark 10 years of XJazz - Jazz Sessions in the Aldeias do Xisto, we edited the album XJazz Ensemble - A SCHIST STORY, directed by Evan Parker and recorded at Casa da Cultura da Sertã, in August 2012. The work results from the artistic residence that brought together 17 musicians in the Aldeia do Xisto of Pedrógão Pequeno. The public presentation of this work takes place on 2 March, also at the stand of Turismo Centro de Portugal, thus marking a decade of a project that has brought national and international artists to the most unusual places.
Entertainment Calendar
From cycling to more ethnographic traditions, trail running or dancing, there are many events that liven up our villages throughout the year. The Aldeias do Xisto Classic, scheduled for 16 April, promises to bring, once again, the magic of a great professional race to our roads. This year, the route links the villages of Mosteiro, Pedrogão Grande, and Aigra Nova, Góis. This is also where AigraCultura will introduce you to the traditions and way of life of the Lousã Mountains. Talking of traditions, you mustn't miss the Aldeias do Xisto Soapbox Racing Circuit that stirs up the roads of the Aldeias do Xisto during the months of November and December. Before that, in June, Raiz d'Aldeia takes place in Janeiro de Cima, in Fundão, putting dance, music and intergenerational conviviality in the spotlight. Cross João Brandão, BTT Tábua, Benfeita Trail and Xinema in Benfeita are also scheduled. Throughout the year, in Cerdeira, Lousã, you can expect several courses and workshops.
