The Oleiros Council was awarded the “Pro-Elderly Communities Seal 2020/21", an initiative that honours Portuguese communities whose policies, programmes, strategic plans, and practices are synonymous with a strong and real commitment to promoting healthy and successful ageing.

The distinction, awarded by the Portuguese Psychologists' Association, was the only one in the district and took into consideration criteria in the areas of: Safety, Housing, and Mobility; Well-being and Health; Social Relations and Inclusion; Culture and Lifelong Learning; and Active Participation and Citizenship.

The campaign, launched before the Covid-19 pandemic, now reinforces the need for communities to promote healthy ageing and thus contribute to "a cohesive, equitable, inclusive, healthy and secure society which promotes the well-being and civic contribution of all citizens, in all life stages", stresses the statement from the promoters of the initiative.
