The number of award-winning swimming areas has continued to rise in recent years, thanks to the quality of infrastructure and the purity of the waters. Quercus also awarded Gold Quality to 8 beaches.

Continuing the recent trend, the number of Aldeias do Xisto River Beaches attaining Blue Flag accreditation increased once again in 2019, with 16 swimming areas earning this distinction. You may recall that, in 2018, 15 beaches were distinguished with the award, 3 more than in 2017.

With quality infrastructure,pure waters, natural surroundings, freshness, and tranquillity, the Aldeias do Xisto River Beaches are unique places for relaxation and leisure activities.

The accredited beaches are:

Alvôco das Várzeas, Oliveira do Hospital
Avô, Oliveira do Hospital
Bogueira, Lousã
Bostelim, Vila de Rei
Canaveias, Góis
Carvoeiro, Mação
Coja, Arganil
Janeiro de Baixo, Pampilhosa da Serra
Louçainha, Penela
Pampilhosa da Serra
Peneda/ Pego Escuro, Góis
Pessegueiro, Pampilhosa da Serra
Piódão, Arganil
Secarias, Arganil
Senhora da Piedade, Lousã

This annual recognition from the European Blue Flag Association attests to the environmental quality of beaches, recreational ports, and marinas, ensuring that criteria such as information and environmental education, water quality, environmental management and facilities, and safety and service provisions are met.

Quercus awards Gold Quality to 8 beaches

This year, Quercus also recognised 8 fluvial Aldeias do Xisto River beaches with a Gold Medal:
