Lime is one of the fundamental materials in traditional construction, responsible for the durability, breathability and balance of schist houses. Present in walls, plaster and finishes, lime mortar is the result of knowledge accumulated over generations, deeply linked to the territory and its materials.
Techniques and principles that can be learned and applied in the Schist Village of Cerdeira on 21 February, in the workshop ‘From Earth to Wall - Introduction to Lime Mortars’, promoted by Planta do Xisto / Ecologic Restore Centre Cerdeira (ERCC).
The workshop offers a practical introduction to lime mortars, combining theoretical background and real-world application, allowing participants to understand the formulation of the materials and their correct use in the rehabilitation of traditional buildings.
The training will be led by Luísa Veloso, a conservator-restorer with experience in the restoration of built heritage and natural construction, applying this knowledge both in a professional context and in the rehabilitation of her own schist house.
Aimed at owners, technicians, craftsmen, students and anyone interested in traditional construction, this is an opportunity to learn about ancestral building techniques in the heart of Aldeia do Xisto.
