The Union of Parishes of Cepos and Teixeira, in the municipality of Arganil, is one of the partner organisations of the Aldeias do Xisto network. Based in Cepos, this administrative unit covers a mountainous area comprising nine villages: Cepos, Teixeira, Casal Novo, Cartamil, Ribeiro, Relvas, Porto Castanheiro, Água D’Alte and Caratão.
This area is marked by a rich history, dating back to the charter of 1237, and by a unique architectural identity, evident in the schist houses of Teixeira: known for their traditional homes without chimneys. Local management focuses on preserving this heritage and promoting projects that combine tradition with sustainability, such as Capril dos Cepos, an initiative that revives traditional grazing and enhances the mountain range’s local resources.
For visitors to the region, the Union of Parishes promotes and maintains unique leisure areas where water takes centre stage. Highlights include the iconic Poço da Cesta area, the river beaches and bathing areas of Porto Castanheiro and Água D’Alte, as well as the viewpoints and swings at Chã da Cabeça, which offer one of the most sweeping views of the Beira Serra.
Visiting Cepos and Teixeira is to discover a region where local government goes hand in hand with hospitality and the active mountain lifestyle.
