Penela castle and St. Michael's church
The Penela Castle goes back to the 11th Century and it's believed to have been an important piece along the defensive line of the Mondego river. Its current layout is from the 14th and 15th Centuries. Inside, you can find St. Michael's church dated from 12th Century. It is worth pointing out the religious painted wood motives on the inside and the image of the Holy Mother with baby Jesus by João de Ruão, from the 16th Century.
Espinhal mountain range
The Espinhal mountain range gives people passing by an amazing view. From here, one can see the beautiful Town of Penela, known for its castle. Depending on the time of the year, the mountain changes tone, from green do blue, passing through ping and yellow, depending on the vast variety of plants and trees that one can find here. In the parish of Espinhal, one should visit the various noble buildings and the natural pools of Louçainha, climg to the peak of the mountain range of Stª Maria (where a sundial exists) and be amazed with the landscape of S. João do Deserto. One of the most important buildings in the parish of Espinhal is the main church, built on the 16th century, known for its architecture and its sculptures.
