Schist Walking Trails
Água Formosa Schist Walking Trail
Using the same old trails, once used by farmers and millers, that in a recent past led to the watermills in Galega and Valada streams, the "Água Formosa Schist Walking Trail” follows theses streams and surrounding areas.
Leaving Água Formosa walking next to Galega stream, we follow this beautiful stretch upstream. On the way, we pass by a water fountain still used by the locals. Further ahead along the water line, we find the waterway that will take us to a water break and to some watermill ruins.
The walking trail goes along the stream leading us to an ancient olive oil press that served the local population. From this point until Vilar Chão village, the walking trail goes trough a pine tree forest. Following the ancient path that connects Vilar Chão to Água Formosa we will find another water fountain.
A little further ahead we find again the path that we had already done, and Água Formosa is just around the corner. This Schist walking trail is a loop with 6200m, not very hilly, and where we can find in every corner good reasons for nature enjoyment and contemplation.
