Cultural Winter 2009
Until April 12th, the Penela City Council and the different local organizations will bring to the municipality a cultural program that will go through the different villages and towns in the municipality — "Cultural Winter 2009".This event brings high cultural value across the population. From January 25th to April 12th everyone will have free access to the events which will happen on weekends. Program can be found here (in Portuguese).

First MTB Trail in the Schist Villages
On the 14th March opens the first Mountain Bike Trail in the Schist Village of Ferraria de S. João. This is also the first infra-structure of its kind in Portugal.This centre is a permanent Mountain Bike Trail network, which includes a welcoming area fitted with MTB specific equipments, including a bike service station (washing, air pump and mini-workshop) in a self-service basis. The centre is comprised by 196km of cross country trails, marked with specific, internationally adopted signage, with four levels of difficulty (green, blue, red and black), fitted for all types of users, from beginners to the most demanding. An adrenaline kick through single tracks and surprising paths. On the 15th you can take a pedestrian path in one of the first trails of the Great Schist Route. If you prefer walking through nature and the landscape of the territory, you can choose to follow the trail between Ferraria de S. João (Penela) and Casal de Simão (Figueiró dos Vinhos). This is already one of the first linear paths of the Great Schist Route, with an extension of 11km and aproximate duration of 5 hours.

Portugal Before the French Invasions (Lousã)
Cartography exhibition between the 10th-31st March in the lobby of the Lousã Main Library. It is an exhibition that combines mapping knowledge with configurations. This event will be integrated in the Simposium: "The French Invasions and The Iberian Peninsula: Europe and the coming of the 19th Century", taking place in Lousã. The Cartography exhibition is a joint project between the Instituto Geográfico do exército (IGeoE), Direcção de Infra‐Estruturas do Exército (DIE) and the Centro de Estudos Geográficos da Universidade de Lisboa (CEG).
